Here is a new concert listing for Keith Jarrett for this summer: July 19, 2006: Venice, La Fenice, 9 PM - Keith Jarrett - Solo Concert There will be a press conference in Rome on April the 20th, where Veneto Jazz will announce their Veneto Jazz Summer Festival lineup and the July 19 Keith Jarrett solo concert. Tickets will go on sale sometime after April 20 (to be determined). Tickets will be sold through the La Fenice Box Office (regional purchaser) and Ticketone (national purchaser). April 10, 2006	The spring 2006 edition of Reviews and Previews from ECM Records lists the following release in the "In preparation, Autumn 2006" section: Keith Jarrett Title tbc Live at Carnegie Hall, September 2005 Keith Jarrett: piano solo ECM 1989/90 2-CD Set 985 6224 Since it's listed as a 2-CD set, this means it will probably contain the complete September 26, 2005 solo concert at the Carnegie Hall. The Tokyo Solo 2002 DVD is also confirmed for May 2006. It is currently listed on Amazon.fr (release date: May 9, 2006, in France), so it's a good sign. Still no word about the 3-CD set Concerts (Bregenz/München), though. Update (April 27, 2006). The DVD is now listed on Amazon.com (release date: June 6, 2006, in the US).

January 5, 2006	After years of waiting, the Miles Davis 6-CD box set, The Cellar Door Sessions 1970, has finally been released in the US! It will be released in Europe in the first trimester of 2006 (January 30 in France, February 3 in Germany, March 11 in the UK, etc.). This compilation includes music from four nights (December 16-19, 1970) at the Cellar Door club in Washington, DC. The band consisted of Miles Davis, Gary Bartz, Keith Jarrett, Michael Henderson, Jack DeJohnette, and Airto Moreira. An essay by Keith Jarrett is included in the booklet. Another box set we've been waiting for a long time, Concerts (Bregenz/München), has unfortunately been delayed. According to someone from ECM Records: "Keith Jarrett's release [Concerts] had to be postponed for production reasons. We are hoping to reschedule it in early 2006, and will circulate information about the release date as soon as we have it." Finally, the Tokyo Solo 2002 - The 150th Concert In Japan DVD has been released in Japan on October 5, 2005. It will probably be released in the rest of the world in 2006. Meanwhile, you can always order it from Japan.
June 24, 2005	According to a message on the Keith Jarrett Yahoo! Group, Concerts (Bregenz/München) will finally be reissued as a 3-CD set on August 15, 2005. The Brengenz concert was already available on CD (as Concerts), but the München concert was previously only available on a 3-LP set.

May 7, 2005	BR-alpha (German TV channel) will broadcast the complete (?) April 18, 1974 concert in Hannover (NDR-Jazzworkshop) with Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson, and Jon Christensen on Sunday, May 8, at 9:45 PM. Also, Arte (French/German TV channel) will broadcast the Keith Jarrett: The Art Of Improvisation documentary on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 PM and on Friday, May 20, at 1:40 AM (with French/German subtitles, I guess). Update (May 8, 2005). According to the May issue of Arte Magazine, the documentary will be broadcast on Saturday, May 14, at 10:35 PM and on Saturday, May 21, at 1:55 AM (thanks to Volker Schweisfurth for the information), so my advice is to check your local listings.

Release dates in Europe vary from May 2 in Germany to May 10 in France. Radiance is a double CD and contains selections from the October 27, 2002 and October 30, 2002 solo concerts in Osaka and Tokyo. A DVD of the October 30, 2002 solo concert in Tokyo, Keith Jarrett's 150th concert in Japan, will be released later. Apparently, it doesn't contain the whole concert. Update (April 12, 2005). February 15, 2005	According to a message on the Keith Jarrett Yahoo! group, Keith Jarrett: The Art of Improvisation, the documentary directed by Mike Dibb that was recently broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK, will be released on DVD on May 8, 2005 by EuroArts, to celebrate Keith Jarrett's 60th birthday. The documentary includes live performance footage, as well as interviews with Keith Jarrett himself and with people who played or worked with him.

Tomorrow, Monday, December 20, 2004, at 7:30 PM, Channel 4 will broadcast a 78-minute documentary directed by Mike Dibb (also responsible for the Miles Davis Story documentary) called Keith Jarrett: The Art of Improvisation: Unique documentary about one of the most influential jazz pianists on the planet. Features outstanding footage of recordings and concerts dating back to the 1960s. This documentary will include interviews of Keith Jarrett himself, but also of musicians and producers who are working or worked with Keith Jarrett. Like The Miles Davis Story, it will probably be released on DVD in the near future (in 2005, hopefully). On a less interesting note, The Out-Of -Towners has been nominated for a Grammy Award (Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group).
November 16, 2004	The Miles Electric: A Different Kind Of Blues DVD is now listed with a release date of November 29, 2004 on Play.com. Let's hope that this is the final release date! Also, a "new" Keith Jarrett DVD has been released in Europe in July 2004 (sorry, I'm a bit late on this one...): Directions: In The Charles Lloyd Mood. Apparently, it comes from Spain / Andorra and is available from CD Universe, among others. It contains the same performance as the Jazz Casual DVD with Charles Lloyd and Paul Winter released in 2001, so nothing really new here. Update (November 17, 2004). The Miles Electric: A Different Kind Of Blues DVD is actually already available in the United States. It was released yesterday and is available from Amazon, CD Universe, etc. November 29, 2004 is the release date for the UK.

For the first time ever, an ECM album is available through iTunes, and it happens to be none other than The Out-of-Towners, the new release from Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock & Jack DeJohnette. Often referred to as The Standards Trio, this band is jazz's most consistently creative piano trio, and their new album, a live concert recording from Munich (home of ECM headquarters) in 2001, showcases them at the top of their game. At the end of the disc - rare for the trio's recordings - Keith Jarrett returns to the stage to perform a solo encore - a heart-melting rendition of "It's All in the Game." This first step towards making the music of ECM available through iTunes is very exciting, so be on the lookout for future ECM releases on iTunes. The review confirms that the DVD will include a complete recording of the August 29, 1970 concert at the Isle of Wight, featuring Miles Davis on trumpet, Gary Bartz on soprano and alto saxophone, Chick Corea on electric piano, Keith Jarrett on organ, Dave Holland on bass and electric bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and Airto Moreira on percussions, as well as a documentary and interviews.

July 10, 2003	Love Animal by Bob Moses has finally been released on July 1 (or June 17, according to Amulet Records). As previously mentioned, Love Animal was recorded in 1967-68 and features Jim Pepper (tenor saxophone), Larry Coryell (guitars, vocal, bass), Steve Swallow (acoustic and electric bass), Keith Jarrett (piano, soprano saxophone), and Bob Moses (drums). Keith Jarrett actually plays the piano on only one track ("Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", already available on Foundations : The Keith Jarrett Anthology) and soprano saxophone on two tracks ("Wholy Moses" and "Nowhere", previously unreleased).
July 10, 2003	According to keithjarrett.it, the next Keith Jarrett / Gary Peacock / Jack DeJohnette album will be a double CD and will be a recording of the July 12, 2002 concert at L'Auditori in Barcelona. It is still not known if last year's solo concerts in Japan will be released.

June 26, 2003	The video of the Polar Music Prize banquet (Grand Hôtel, Stockholm, May 12, 2003) is available again from the Polar Music Prize Web site. This new video only lasts about 23 minutes. For copyright reasons, only one minute and a half from the May 7, 2003 concert at the Konserthuset in Stockholm is included. For the same reasons, the press conference given by Keith Jarrett on May 8, 2003 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm will unfortunately not be available from the Polar Music Prize Web site.

June 3, 2003	I just received a confirmation from ECM Records that "Scattered Words", the new book about Keith Jarrett, is not available anymore. Apparently, Keith Jarrett himself decided that it was just a gift for the guests at the Polar Music Prize ceremony and that therefore ECM Records shouldn't sell it.
June 3, 2003	The video of the press conference given by Keith Jarrett on May 8, 2003 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in Stockholm will soon be available from the Polar Music Prize Web site. According to the webmaster of that site, it should be available on June 6, along with the video of the Polar Music Prize banquet, which was already available last week, but only for a short time. Update (June 12, 2003). The banquet video won't be available before June 13. The press conference video is not listed anymore.
June 3, 2003	Promotional copies of the Miles Davis 5-CD box set The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions (to be released in September 2003 by Columbia / Legacy) have been floating around for several weeks now. As far as I know, this box set will include all the studio sessions with Keith Jarrett (May 19, 1970, May 21, 1970, May 27, 1970, June 3, 1970, and June 4, 1970), which represents almost two hours of music. Some of the tracks with Keith Jarrett have already been released on Miles Davis albums such as Live-Evil, Get Up With It, and Directions.
May 28, 2003	The video of the Polar Music Prize banquet (Grand Hôtel, Stockholm, May 12, 2003) is finally available from the Polar Music Prize Web site. It lasts about 33 minutes. Only a short excerpt from the press conference is included, unfortunately, but the good news is that it also includes more than 11 minutes from the May 7, 2003 concert at the Konserthuset in Stockholm.

It includes a foreword by Geoff Dyer, an annotated discography, an article written by Keith Jarrett, quotes from liner notes and interviews, a list of awards, and 24 pages of photos. May 17, 2003	Image Entertainment will release Keith Jarrett Trio Concert 1996 (also known as Tokyo 1996) on DVD in the USA and in Canada on May 27, 2003. Keith Jarrett Trio Concert 1996 will be the sixth Keith Jarrett DVD to be released in North America, after Live At Open Theater East (August 14, 2001), Last Solo (June 18, 2002), Standards (August 27, 2002), Standards II (September 17, 2002), and Solo Tribute (October 8, 2002).
May 14, 2003	According to Jazzmatazz, Amulet Records will release the album Love Animal by Bob Moses in the US on June 3, 2003. At the moment, I don't know if there are any plans to release it elsewhere. Love Animal was recorded in 1967-68 and features Jim Pepper, Larry Coryell, Steve Swallow and Keith Jarrett. "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" is the only track that has ever been officially released from this album. It is available on the Foundations : The Keith Jarrett Anthology compilation (released in 1994). Update (June 12, 2003). The release date for Love Animal has been pushed back from June 3, 2003 to July 1, 2003.

The prize money is one million Swedish Crowns (approx USD 125.000 or EURO 110.000). Keith Jarrett will receive his prize from His Majesty The King of Sweden during a nationally-televised ceremony at Berwaldhallen, Stockholm. Keith talks about the trio, Up For It, and the :Rarum collection, among other things. Alyn Shipton also mentions the possibility of a solo concert album this year (maybe the 150th concert in Japan, which was already broadcast on Japanese television and should be released on DVD). The album (a single CD) contains the following pieces from last year's Royal Festival Hall concerts in London: July 26, 2000 - First part of first set (23:13) July 26, 2000 - Second part of first set (21:14) July 26, 2000 - First part of second set (18:15) - fades out before "Angel Eyes" July 28, 2000 - Second part of second set (7:24) - this is the piece after "Scrapple From The Apple"; only the end of the piece is included, so it starts with a fade in July 28, 2000 - "When I Fall In Love" (7:25) - last tune of the concert Total duration: 78:06. The first four pieces are completely improvised. The names of the pieces were not listed on my copy of the album. allmusic.com already has a review of this album.
