This is probably not news to those of you who are familiar with ECM Records, but "Jasmine" can be ordered directly from ecmrecords.com. Excerpt from their FAQ:

"You are on the web site of ECM Records in Munich, the only address that can supply a fully comprehensive stock of currently available ECM, ECM New Series, Japo, Watt, XtraWatt, JCOA and Carmo titles.

To order, click on the “Order” link on the catalogue page of the CD you’d like to buy.

If you prefer, you can find “brick and mortar” retailers via our distributors worldwide. Visit their web sites or email them for information about local purchasing options.

If you want to order online and are located in North America, you may find it convenient to order discs from iclassics.com."

Thanks to Jon for reminding me this!

You can also find a list of "digital platforms and portals" in their FAQ. "Of these services, HDtracks and Qobuz offer ECM music in ‘lossless’ formats." "Jasmine" is already available from Qobuz, for example (320 kbps MP3s, lossless 16-bit / 44.1 KHz, and high-definition 24-bit / 44.1 KHz).

Dear All,

I am passionate about this subject.

More and more musicians nowadays have their own online shops; buyers can purchase physical or digital music directly from the artist.  Or, the artist will provide you with the details of the distributor that they personally entrust with the distribution of their music.

It's a better deal for everyone; the artists gets paid more for his/her efforts and the buyer often pays less than he/she would elsewhere.

I think multi-national companies like Am*z*n make enough money as it is.  The major record labels claim piracy/filesharing is 'killing the industry' (i.e. profit losses), while simultaneously giving their musicians a raw deal;  the latter point has been highlighted in the press recently, as Pink Floyd rightfully defeated EMI in a court battle over royalty payments/artist rights on digital distribution of music, and it was also revealed that pop-artists like Lady Gaga earn a pittance from digitally streamed music.

Regards,

Jon
